Taxis were banned from entering the University of Buea last year(May 2013). Since then students have to drop at the second main gate and walk into campus. Many students at first thought it was just a bad joke that will soon end but it did not and may never will.Lets just say the joke got thwarted and its punch line is not as weak as the students may have thought.
Mini buses under the campus shuttle service now plough the University of Buea campus following a notice put up by the Vice Chancellor which says the shuttle service will be tried out for three months. These three buses are of different sizes but none can really be called big unless its in the context of bigger than the other.I sat in one of these buses(the smallest) yesterday and the feedback was....well it was what it was
Students felt it was a joke indeed if its meant to carry students because its so small and very old,the one seated by the driver specifically said "i can hear old metal displacing itself as we go ahead.is this just to make us annoyed or what?" Then Oh My! get this, a guy who is so reluctant to enter the bus gets in and says "is this serious? UB has a flat screen TV many cannot afford and buses probably the price of a bicycle" i guess he just feels like and like(modern) go together.
Out of the gloomy side, girls were impressed! as they get on the bus, they just keep on mentioning how much time and energy the bus saves them and how the shuttle service is going to be "hot cake" during the examination period but i guess the people who wont be buying any cake will be cab drivers. The bus takes you around campus for 50frs and out of campus for 100frs.The advantage is that it reaches places on campus that cabs cant reach so what is going to be the future of cabs in Molyko?? People that are mainly drawn to town by the University of Buea.
Fingers Crossed.......
