ASJUB Breaks the Chain of Male Guest Speakers!

Sarah Simo speaking to participants
www.sylviawaindim.wordpress.comThe Journalism students in their traditional fashion celebrated their open day on June 6 but the style was a little different. So what's new? This year for the first time the day was celebrated at the CNPS Hall in mile 17,all the lecturers were awarded for thier work, the department recieved cameras thanks to the connections of Mrs Manka Tabuwe but most worthy of note is the fact that this time one of the guest speakers was a woman!
The previous years have seen landmarks or icons in the field but not a woman but this year Miss Sarah Simo broke that chain which in our world today must highlight a gender issue. She is a former student of the department and  is currently the regulator affairs manager in British American Tobacco .Her talk to the students was not the usual printed paper, lenses and speech delivery routine. It was a talk an advice, telling the students to take thier practical courses seriously for later and constant use in life.
Professor Enoh speaking on networking
She is one to talk she has been where the students and she also gave a big hat off to all the lecturers of the department especially Professor Enoh Tanjong the founding father of the department.
Professor Enoh Tanjong also seems to have stolen that show with a drama and anecdotes mostly about him.He also gave a talk that shifted the idea of open day from awards and merry making to networking with the guests and showing off of journalistic skills in order to impress scouts and prospective employers.
Why havent women been a popular choice? The secretary General of the association Ajongaku Marious-Santos says it is more of chance than choice "but the association would very much like all sexes in the field to be represented equally so im sure the subsequent press freedom days and open days will feature men and women" he said.
JMC Lecturers with donated cameras
Other activities of the day inlcuded a drama,a debate which was steamy, news presentation a profitable cake cutting and presentation of the donated cameras.
